BPR BANK commemorates the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

On Thursday 14th 2022 BPR Bank commemorated the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 

The event started with the staff of BPR BANK reciting names of their ex-colleagues who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and laid wreaths of flowers at the memorial site built at its head office. They then proceeded to Kigali Memorial site in Gisozi.

BPR BANK donated FRW 3 MILLION to Kigali Memorial site and pledged to continue supporting different projects like educating the children and uplifting the families that were affected by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

BPR BANK has paid school fees for 21 children of the ex-staff victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi and 3 of them are currently employed by the bank.

On behalf of BPR Bank Board, Management and Staff, Mr. Albert Akimanzi conveyed a message of hope, togetherness, and support during the 28th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

On behalf of IBUKA; an umbrella organization that connects the groups that aid survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi; Mr. Olivier Ngabo emphasized and reminded BPR Bank staff the main aim of Commemoration: “To us the survivors, it heals our scars, it’s a good time to go back in history and also time to visit our families because it’s where we draw strength from. Commemoration teaches us resilience which our fathers, mothers, relatives had until their last minute.’ 

Olivier also thanked the then RPF Inkotanyi army wing for their selfless act that stopped the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the government for giving survivors time to commemorate and ensuring that the memories are preserved.  He lauded BPR Bank for their continued support

A representative of the ex-staff victims’ families, Ndayisaba thanked BPR Bank for building a Genocide memorial with the names of the victims at its head offices and the financial support for their children.

The 100 days of commemoration are still ongoing until July.
